July 31, 2011: Aruba and Curaçao.
It's been about forever since I took a beach vacation...Tanya and I fixed that: Aruba and Curaçao.
July 2-3, 2011: Adams.
Far from the best outing ever, mountains and skiing nevertheless.
June 26, 2011: Muir with Sophia.
Sophia has skied in July before, but not in June. Fixed that today. (I think I'm an Aperture convert now.)
June 13, 2011: Summitted Baker...finally.
One day car-to-car on Baker via Easton Glacier yesterday.
June 4-5, 2011: A Fuhrer Finger attempt.
No summit, but skied the Finger top to bottom. It was as sweet to ski as it was a bitch to ascend. The views are pretty astonishing, of course.
May 28, 2011: Muir outing.
Busy life, first time skiing in May 2011, only a few pictures.
April 24, 2011: More Whistler.
Random shots from the rest of our Whistler trip.
April 21, 2011: Sophia's first backcountry day.
In the Magical Snowkingdom of Whistler of course.
February 15, 2011: Sophia's winter break.
I got out of SLR photography when I got into the skiing — too heavy, too bulky, too impractical. Well, 7 years later, I am back at it, after much research having chosen Pentax K-5 over comparable competitor bodies. My first steps with it.
May 14, 2010: My first ski injury. Part 2: Thoughts.
Alright, I have now skied and hiked Heliotrope Ridge on a broken ankle. Awezum... read the rest (includes 2 pictures)
May 13, 2010: My first ski injury. Part 1: Boring Chronicle.

March 6, 2010: Ruth, baby!

February 16, 2010: Quest for perfect ski pants.
As of summer 2008, I am not in New England anymore (woohoo!); I am back West — this time in Seattle, Washington. Since moving here, not only have I learned to tie a figure eight (and prefer the bowline to it), but I also now tend to reach to my toe piece at first when getting out of my downhill bindings... read the rest
April 25, 2008: A third-grader and the modern politics.
Sophia brought another piece of free comedy from school. The assignment in her writing class was to write a story for a newspaper, describing the events and including facts... read the rest (includes 1 picture)
February 29, 2008: Last day at Snowbird.
I'm flying back home early tomorrow morning. And, while the memories are still fresh, I need to write down a few of my thoughts (using "thoughts" loosely, as usual) on Snowbird vs. Alta... read the rest (includes 8 pictures)
February 26, 2008: Sunny day at Snowbird.
Ever since I arrived here 3 days ago, it has been cloudy and foggy. I couldn't complain really — I came here to ski powder, and powder it was. Still, I was wondering if I was going to spend a week here and never see the supposedly breathtaking vistas... read the rest (includes 20 pictures)
February 24, 2008: Snowbird!
I totally fail to understand why it is that whenever I bother to publish something here, it is about skiing. Just this past summer nine of us had the best road trip ever going from Boulder, Colorado to Las Vegas... read the rest (includes 4 pictures)

March 25, 2007: Tahoe and Heavenly.
It's been a while (like...more than a year!) since I've been in California, and even longer since I've been in Northern California, so I flew there for the weekend (writing this on the plane back home). The program: (1) hang out with my friend Andrey who moved from LA to Mountain View a few months ago and (2) ski Tahoe... read the rest (includes 8 pictures)

Three weeks after returning from Switzerland, I finally have time to post the pictures and do a little write-up. Basically, Oleg and I visited Mike for what was supposed to be a week of skiing... read the rest (includes 41 pictures)

November 21, 2006: Six international flights in four days.
Some people would understand this, and some would not: when a close friend (and I rarely use this word loosely) of mine decided it's time to tie the knot, I had to be there. The first obstacle was that Andrey still lives in Moscow, Russia, and I live in Nashua, NH, USA... read the rest (includes 26 pictures)
March 26, 2006: My visit to Québec.
I knew that Québec the province was an interesting place back when I was a little kid in early eighties in what was then the Soviet Union. First, they had that monster of a hockey team, the Canadiens... read the rest (includes 9 pictures)

In the morning we woke up unbelievably early (7 AM), packed the rest of our belongings, checked out of the hotel, hopped on the car and headed to Denver. We stopped in the town to take one last picture of the mountain... read the rest (includes 2 pictures)
January 12, 2006: Last day skiing in Crested Butte.
On our last day of skiing in Crested Butte, we finally got to ski some powder. Not a lot of it by Western standards — just five inches, — but for us who ski on New England sn...I mean ice, it was more than enough... read the rest (includes 6 pictures)

January 9, 2006: More Crested Butte pictures.
On Sunday, it was cloudy, foggy, cold and snowing. We did hope for a powder day on Monday, but it stopped snowing Sunday night, so today there was only about a couple inches of fresh powder on the mountain... read the rest (includes 4 pictures)
